QuietConnect™ Home Standby Generators.

Permanent Generators for Temporary Power Outages

  • Your power can go out at any time, but finding peace of mind doesn’t have to be a headache. Cummins QuietConnect™ home standby generators are safe, permanent and convenient backup solutions for your entire house. While portable generators are ideal for tailgating, camping and other outdoor uses, they can’t fully power homes, need constant refueling and require cords and cables.

Cummins QuietConnect standby generators, on the other hand, are connected to your home’s natural gas or propane line and always ready. The moment they sense an interruption in power, they turn on and begin quietly and efficiently powering your home. Once the outage is over, they reconnect your home to the power grid and shut themselves off. For maximum power and convenience, QuietConnect home standby generators are the ideal backup solution.

  • Hospitals, fire stations and police departments have trusted the rugged reliability of Cummins to provide backup power for decades. In fact, for over a hundred years, Cummins has been building some of the most powerful engines on earth. From battlefields to cornfields, from highways to waterways, Cummins horsepower has helped move the world forward.

That same reliability is also built into every Cummins home standby generator — because we all need the peace of mind knowing life can go on as normal, even when the power’s out. No matter where you live, Cummins generators can be there, backing up your home or business and powering your life.

  • We will install your home standby generator with a Cummins automatic transfer switch. This switch instantly senses an interruption in service from your electric utility, disconnecting your home from the power grid while simultaneously starting and connecting your generator. Cummins offers multiple transfer switch options for our full range of home generators. We will help you identify the correct solution for your specific generator transfer switch installation needs. Click here for more information about Cummins automatic transfer switches.

  • If natural gas or propane are not easily available, Cummins makes QuietConnect home standby generators that can run on diesel instead. The pre-configured diesel generator sets deliver reliable power and a fast response to load changes while also operating under extreme environmental conditions. The aesthetically appealing enclosure assists in delivering a quiet product and anti-corrosion performance. Optional features include two dual-wall sub-base fuel tanks that allow flexibility to meet code requirements. Please feel free to ask us for more information about these offerings.

  • Cummins offers a competitive base warranty with fewer exclusions than other brands. 13-, 17- and 20-kW models include a 5-year/2,000-hour limited warranty; 25-150 kW models include a 2-year limited warranty. Cost-effective extended warranty options allow for full coverage for up to 10 years. Please feel free to contact us for more information.

For a world that’s always on.

Our Process

  • Before work can begin, we will submit permit applications to your local municipality. Depending on your area, approvals can take anywhere from a few days to over a month.

  • Once your permits have been approved, we will work together to select the best locations for the generator and automatic standby switch, paying attention to local building codes.

  • We will then install the transfer switch.

  • Next, we will install your generator and connect it to its fuel source and the transfer switch.

  • Finally, local inspectors will need to verify that all the work has been completed properly.

  • That’s it! Your generator is ready to give you years of safe, dependable backup power. Regular servicing is recommended to keep everything in working order.

Powerful Peace of Mind in an Uncertain World.

  • Standby generators connect directly to a home’s electrical and natural gas/liquid propane systems. They are professionally installed for the convenience and safety of the homeowner.

  • When a power outage occurs, an automatic transfer switch turns the generator on, delivering the precise power your home needs.

  • When the outage is over, the generator turns off automatically, going into standby mode until the next power outage or exercise period.

  • Every so often, your standby generator will turn itself on to get some “exercise” and perform self-diagnostics to make sure everything is running smoothly.

  • Simple remote monitoring via a computer or mobile device lets you control your generator and observe its performance from anywhere. It also notifies you and/or our team if any problems arise.

  • Home generators are smaller than the generators used in commercial and industrial applications, but work in the same way, and have the same components. The best way to install a home generator is to connect it to the home’s main electrical panel, so it can power all of the home’s electrical circuits when needed. This is done with a device known as a transfer switch. The transfer switch prevents electricity from traveling from the generator and into the power lines, so utility workers don’t risk getting an electric shock from someone’s home generator when they are working on the lines.

Most homes use generators as standby power. In case of an electrical outage, the generator senses the loss of power and automatically kicks in, usually within seconds.

Portable generators are scaled down versions of home generators and feature an engine roughly half the size of a lawnmower engine. Many portable generators weighing 50 pounds or less are available. Their portability makes them well suited for camping trips, cookouts, and construction projects.

Modern portable generators come with standard AC outlets and USB charging ports. Some even have Bluetooth connectivity and an app that allows the user to monitor the status of the generator on a smartphone. Others have built-in batteries which provide power for some time without having to start up the engine. Portable generators must never be used indoors, inside a vehicle or inside a tent because they can release deadly carbon monoxide gas.

  • This range of power needs means you can probably use a portable generator instead of a whole house generator. A 9,000-watt portable generator can run one of the following combinations, but not both at the same time:

    - Refrigerator, microwave oven, electric stove and dishwasher, OR

    - Central AC in smaller homes, washing machine and iron

  • This size generator is a great entry level generator to power rooms of your choice. A 13,000-watt generator could power all the following basic amenities:

    - Central air conditioner

    - Electric water heater

    - Gas furnace

    - Electric garage door

    - Refrigerator

    - Freezer

    - Microwave

  • A 20,000-watt home standby generator is ideal for powering the whole house through an outage, especially if you have a larger home or longer outages. A 20,000-watt generator could power the following essentials in addition to the list above:

    - Dishwasher

    - Washer

    - Dryer (Electric)

    - Cooktop (Gas or Electric)

  • Even though we have not had any power outages since my generator has been installed, I am very happy with the generator. The installer showed me how it would work in the event of a power outage. I love the connection to the internet and being able to change settings and get alerts. Living in Texas, I am now ready for hurricane season. The ordering process was very easy and the representatives were very helpful. The delivery went smoothly. Overall I had an excellent experience.

    Brenda M, Texas

  • When I ordered the generator and automatic transfer switch I was told it would be 3-4 weeks for delivery it arrived in 2 weeks, fast delivery. It was installed May 5th and on May 15 we had a power outage generator fired up in seconds. I am very satisfied with the generator, automatic transfer switch and with the dealer Electric Generators Direct

  • I have an electrical background, so the installation was easy for me. I had a couple of load shedding questions and Cummins Tech Support was very helpful. The only critique I have is the following: I am supplying the genset with propane. Obviously, I have a long duration run time problem. It would have been helpful if the genset had a "vacation" mode. Some kind of option that would cycle the cycle the genset off for a couple of hours, then on again. If I'm away for a few days, it would save a lot of fuel. I'm going to have to engineer some kind of timer.

    Pouletsos L. Lewes, Delaware

  • Purchased it as standby power for an upper end home. It blended in well and the owner was satisfied with the product. Installation was pretty easy with an existing transfer switch, although we did have to call tech support and change a setting on the generators control panel to allow us to use it with a standard 2 wire control instead of the Cummins transfer switch. Runs a little noisier than I would like, but I think it is average for generators in this price range.

    Jeff K. Mapleton, Minnesota

  • This generator replaced a previously installed generator of a different brand that failed (shorted stator) way too early. It was a bit more complicated to install, and perhaps a challenge for DIYers who've never installed one. But once up in running, it has many features that make it superior. I highly recommend connecting to internet and using the remote features. I also installed the load management kit and it all worked like a charm. I look forward to many years of peace of mind.

    John H. Raleigh, North Carolina

  • It took about 6 months to get it here but once it got here I am glad I waited because the quality of build is great the ease of installation was great and 3 days after install we had a 4 hour power outage within 10 secs we were up and running no muss no fuss we could not be happier!!
